Unemployment rate falls again, now equal with national average

Tasmania’s unemployment rate has fallen again to 5.8 percent, equal with the national average.

The ABS figures release today show that we have delivered on our pre-election commitment to match the national unemployment rate.

Under Labor the unemployment rate reached 8.1 percent. Under us, the rate is a massive 1.7 percent lower than when we came to Government when it was 7.5 percent.

Tasmania’s unemployment rate is now the second lowest of any State in the country, only behind New South Wales, the only other Liberal State.

Since the election of the Hodgman Government in March 2014, 4,400 jobs have been created.

This is positive news, however we realise that there is still a lot more work to be done, which is why we remain committed our long-term Plan, the latest stage of which can be found here.
