The Hodgman Liberal Government’s number one priority is jobs.
Today’s unemployment numbers are disappointing, and reinforce the importance of the Government’s unwavering focus on supporting job creation, such as the $315 million job creation package announced in the Budget.
Notwithstanding today’s figures, it’s important to note that since the election the unemployment rate has fallen by half a per cent. It’s also notable that over the past 12 months, Tasmania is one of only two states (along with Victoria) to record a fall in the unemployment rate on trend terms.
Tasmania is now heading in the right direction, our economy is growing, retail trade is at record highs, the building and construction sector is strong and importantly business confidence is high.
It’s critically important now that we consolidate the gains of the past 12 months, and build on the growing momentum.
