I am incredibly honoured to accept the position of Minister for State Growth following the Premier’s announcement today.
I see State Growth as one of the key portfolios in Government and I see this as a huge opportunity to turbo-charge the Tasmanian economy.
As a result of a strong Liberal majority Government, Tasmania’s economy is growing at the fastest rate in years, well above the national average and well above the growth rates in Queensland, New South Wales and Western Australia. The number of jobs in Tasmania is also at record highs.
Matthew Groom leaves a strong legacy that I will work hard to build on.
As Treasurer, I have worked closely with Matthew on many projects like the Northern Economic Stimulus package and the Jobs package announced in the budget. I have also been working with Matthew on a number of projects that are still in the pipeline and I will hit the ground running.
Now is the time to redouble our efforts to build Tasmania’s future and I look forward to making some significant announcements in coming weeks.
