TSO China tour to promote Tasmania

The Hodgman Liberal Government’s strong relationship with China will be strengthened later this month and early in the New Year when the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra will play nine concerts in Jiangsu and Fujian provinces, and in Shanghai.

The Government is supporting the tour with a grant of $100,000 towards the cost of travel for the orchestra’s 55 musicians and associated freight expenses.

The Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra is a key contributor to the identity and essence of Tasmania, and to the promotion of the image of Tasmania both interstate and overseas, and it is a pleasure to help them share their extraordinary musical capacity with our friends in China.

Earlier this year I had the honour of representing the Tasmanian Liberal Government in China to take part in the celebrations of the 35th anniversary of our sister state relationship with Fujian Province, and the tour will further strengthen our cultural connection and friendship with China.

The TSO tour is a unique opportunity to strengthen our cultural and economic engagement with China, and I will be accompanying the TSO on this trip to further progress the strong trade, tourism, education and investment relationships we continue to develop with one of our largest export partners.
