Trout licence fees to be frozen for 4 years

The Hodgman Liberal Government is delivering on its $300,000 commitment to freeze inland trout licence fees at 2017-18 prices.

The commitment to keep fees at the same price for the next four years has been formally listed in the Government Gazette and is designed to reduce the cost of living and encourage more people to go fishing.

Tasmania enjoys some of the best trout fishing in the world and is home of trout fishing in Australia.

This weekend thousands of people are taking the opportunity to attend the Tassie Trout Weekend at Liawenee, yingina/Great Lake, in the Central Highlands.

Tassie Trout Weekend celebrates everything that is great about angling and our world-class trout fishery of which we are strong supporters.

Through Events Tasmania, we are providing $100,000 to support the 2019 World Fly Fishing Championship which will shine the international spotlight on Tasmania’s magnificent waterways and trout fishing.

Today we welcome major sponsors of the 39th world championship from November 30 to December 7 2019 - Huon Aquaculture Group, Hydro Tasmania, Goldwind Australia, DJ Motors and Fly Life Magazine.

It is anticipated that teams from 30 countries will compete in WFFC2019 with an estimated 800 anglers and support crews in Northern Tasmania for the event and also extending their stay to explore our beautiful island.

The Hodgman Liberal Government is also committed to delivering better infrastructure to improve the fishery and support anglers and families and will provide funding for Anglers Alliance Tasmania, representing Tasmania’s 26,000 trout anglers, Inland Fisheries Services’ Angler Access Program and building and upgrading existing and new community amenities at high visitation fishing locations.

Tassie Trout Weekend is a must-visit event in a must-see location and we congratulate everyone involved in organising this year’s event and also to Bruce Deagle who won the IFS Tasmanian Trout Fishing Photography Competition.
