Tribute to the Voice of Country Sawmillers

Ivan "Ike" Kelly OAM spent his life in Tasmania's forestry industry and will be remembered for the role he played for many years as the voice of the State's independent sawmillers.

The founding chairman of the Tasmanian Country Sawmillers Federation, Mr Kelly was also a founding member of the Tasmanian Forests and Forest Industry Council.

A modest man, he was proud of the industry in which he worked, and he fought for the interests of fellow sawmillers through much turmoil.

His Order of Australia Medal in 2008 was a fitting and deserved honour.

On behalf of the Government, I express my sympathies to Mr Kelly's wife Jan and sons Peter and Paige.
