Sorell continues to lead population growth in Southern Tasmania which is why the Hodgman Liberal Government has prioritised improving traffic flow in the area to relieve congestion.
Phase one of work will begin along the Tasman Highway at the Holyman Avenue roundabout this summer with the construction of a second lane, improvements to the entry and exit points and the removal of the merge on the approach to the roundabout from Hobart.
While planning and design for the new Hobart Airport Interchange is well underway, these immediate improvements will help to combat the queues and travel delays.
This project is just one part of our South-East Traffic Solution, with six major road infrastructure projects in the pipeline. The works are aimed at reducing congestion and travel times between Hobart and Sorell and the Southern Beaches while protecting the lifestyle attraction of these areas.
Tenders for phase one of the improvement works will go out at the end of August.
