Traffic congestion in Hobart CBD

The Government is acting to prevent congestion events from occurring in the Hobart CBD, which is why we commissioned the Hobart Congestion Traffic Analysis report early last year.

I have today written to Hobart City Lord Mayor Sue Hickey requesting the Council to reconsider its opposition to a raft of traffic congestion measures outlined in the report that are their responsibility.

The most effective way to reduce the frequency and severity of these congestion events is to implement all of the short-term recommendations contained in the report, which the Government has done for all that fall under our control.

However, the lack of action from the Council is preventing further alleviation of congestion events in the Hobart CBD, causing immense frustration for Hobart commuters and creating the perception that nothing is being done.

I look forward to discussing this matter with the Council further.
