The Hodgman Liberal Government is a strong supporter of Tasmania’s heritage-listed assets that attract thousands of visitors to the state and help grow the economy.
I am pleased to announce the World Heritage-listed Port Arthur and Cascades Female Factory Historic Sites have seen record breaking visitation for the 2015-16 financial year.
Day visitors to Port Arthur Historic Site totalled 308,227- a massive 13 per cent increase on the previous year. Ghost Tour numbers were also the highest they have been in five years, with 35,568 visitors enjoying the after dark tour.
The Cascades Female Factory, situated in South Hobart has also broken records with 30, 725 visitors to the site in the last financial year.
These fantastic numbers reflect the confidence in Tasmania’s tourism industry as visitors flock to our unique, world-class visitor experiences.
There have been more visitors to the state than ever before in the past year, and we will continue to grow the industry to help reach our goal of 1.5 million visitors to the state by 2020
