Time to stop playing politics with children at risk

The death of every baby is a tragedy. When elected in 2014, the Hodgman Liberal Government committed to a whole-of-government, comprehensive redesign of the child safety system to better support families and children at risk, and to ensure our Out of Home Care system provides the best possible care.

The Strong Families Safe Kids redesign is already seeing system improvements and we are in a strong position to see better outcomes for families.

Labor simply has no credibility when it comes child protection, and the community and our dedicated child safety sector are pleading with them to take the politics out of child safety and our vulnerable kids.

The Coroner, Olivia McTaggart, in her report acknowledged the significant reforms committed to by the current Tasmanian Government.

Additionally, last week we also appointed Tasmania’s first Child Advocate to provide a greater voice to children and protect their wellbeing and safety.

The Tasmanian Government remains totally committed to our comprehensive redesign of the child safety system and it will be funded in next week’s Budget.

The political opportunism by Labor on this issue is shameful.
