Time to recognise our great educators

It is time to show your appreciation for Tasmania’s outstanding educators and nominate exceptional teachers, principals, volunteers and staff for the RBF Department of Education Awards for Excellence.

These annual awards recognise the very best public educators and those who provide the essential education services and support for our young Tasmanians.

This is an opportunity for all Tasmanians to publicly acknowledge the dedication and commitment of the staff and volunteers who have shown outstanding excellence, innovation and talent in 2014.

Primary and secondary school educators can be nominated for the Teacher and Principal of the Year awards, which recognise those who made a significant difference children’s learning.

Young educators are also recognised with the Teachers Health Fund Outstanding Young Teacher award for exemplary young teachers who were aged under 28 years last year.

Parents and other members of the community who are doing exceptional volunteer work at schools are eligible for the Volunteer of the Year award.

Specific awards are also up for grabs for staff who support learning such as teachers assistants, administrative staff, social workers, speech and language pathologists, and school psychologists.

I also encourage members of the public and staff within the department to consider nominations for the Employee of the Year, LINC Tasmania Employee of Year, Young Employee of the Year and Outstanding Team of the Year awards.

Recognising excellence is important not only in rewarding people for their hard work, but for providing an opportunity to share information and inspirational insights that improve the education of young Tasmanians.

Nominations for the awards open today and close on Sunday 14 June. Finalists in all award categories will be invited to a state-wide awards ceremony where award winners will be announced on 16 October.  For more information: www.education.tas.gov.au
