Time for Lara to come clean about her future

With the Labor leadership battle stepping up, it’s time for Franklin MP Lara Giddings to come clean about her future.

Ms Giddings has made it clear that she is only interested in seeing her euthanasia legislation debated by Parliament, and has little interest in anything else.

While this is undoubtedly an important issue to many people, Ms Giddings is doing the people of Franklin a disservice by being focussed solely on this issue, and not other important issues like jobs, health, and the cost of living.

It’s now also clear that Ms Giddings only other motivation for remaining in Parliament is to deny David O’Byrne a seat, and to protect Bryan Green’s leadership.

For Ms Giddings’ plan to block David O’Byrne to work, she also needs to recontest at the next election.  But given her heart is clearly not in it anymore, there is growing speculation that she would not see out another term if re-elected.

Ms Giddings must come clean: does she have a secret plan to retire from politics shortly after the next election?  What deals has she done with Bryan Green?  Will she commit to seeing out another term of Parliament?  Or is she just in this for herself and to settle a few old scores?
