The Unconformity Festival launched for 2016

The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to attracting 1.5 million visitors to our state by 2020, and outstanding regional events like The Unconformity Festival makes a great contribution towards reaching this goal.

The Unconformity Festival from October 14-16 is really like no other, one that must be experienced to be believed. It bridges every layer of the West Coast and it brings the community together to celebrate Queenstown’s rugged backbone, unique arts culture and unmatched sense of place.

An unconformity is an area of rock that shows a geological break in time. This year’s festival program showcases local, interstate and overseas artists and includes a variety of cultural activities including music, poetry, contemporary art installations, visual art exhibitions, book launches, workshops, tours, theatre productions, forums and outdoor dining.

The Tasmanian Government is proud to support The Unconformity in 2016. Congratulations to the team behind the festival who, along with the Queenstown community, bring this extraordinary mix of arts and heritage together for all of us to embrace.

We are proud of partnering with regional events like The Unconformity - that bring so much to our regional communities.

Since the inaugural festival in 2010, The Unconformity biennial festival has established itself as a significant contemporary cultural event in regional Tasmania.

This award winning festival draws large numbers of visitors to Queenstown, resulting in all accommodation at capacity and providing economic benefits and jobs to other towns and businesses in the area.

We are also very happy to support the UK-based artist Lindsay Sears.  Ms Sears is not a stranger to Tasmania – having an outsider’s perspective on our unique way of life being portrayed in visual installations at MONA in the past.  Ms Sears will be constructing interactive spaces to celebrate Leo Kelly – a well-known Queenstown personality - who sadly passed away last year.

Thank you also to Festival Chairman Sandy Chilcott and Festival Director Travis Tiddy, and everyone involved in making the festival a reality.
