The Nightingale wins at Venice Film Festival

Congratulations to the team behind The Nightingale, for its success at the 75th Venice International Film Festival.

The film won the Special Jury Prize, which is considered the festival’s second place award, and Baykali Ganambarr was recognised with the Marcello Mastroianni Award for Best New Actor.

Predominately shot in Tasmania, this landmark film explores our troubled past and showcases our unique heritage and landscapes to the rest of the world.

The Hodgman Liberal Government, through Screen Tasmania, is proud to have supported the film with $250,000, which injected $4.5 million into the local economy.

Two members of Tasmania’s Aboriginal community, Jim Everett and Theresa Sainty, were among more than 70 Tasmanians employed as cast and crew during the film’s production.

Once again, a huge congratulations to writer and director Jennifer Kent, Baykali Ganambarr and the rest of the cast and crew of The Nightingale.
