The 16th Australian Masters Games are officially underway for the first time in Tasmania since the inaugural Games were hosted in Hobart in 1987.
Around 5000 athletes from across the country are gearing up to compete in what is one of the nation’s largest participation sporting events.
The Games will bring thousands of athletes, supporters and volunteers to the North-West Coast for the next eight days, which is expected to pump $10 million into the local economy.
The Tasmanian Government has provided $750,000, matched equally by the Australian Government, to bring the event to Tasmania.
It will put the spotlight firmly on the North-West Coast and showcase all the region has to offer; spectacular scenery, local attractions, premium produce and warm hospitality.
No doubt many will take the opportunity to stay on for a well deserved holiday after the competition.
