The Tasmanian Government recognises the importance of the State’s Cultural and Creative industries and is committed to supporting the sector through these difficult times.
Thanks to advanced development funding made available through the Tasmanian Governments’ $985 million Social and Economic Support Package, a second season of acclaimed Stan original drama series, The Gloaming, will be explored in a virtual writers’ room.
The first series of The Gloaming is an acclaimed crime drama that was shot against the surreal landscapes of Tasmania and starred Emma Booth and Ewen Leslie,
The Gloaming is one of the first four screen projects approved through accelerated assessment by Screen Tasmania as part of $2 million in funding that has been brought forward to assist our renowned cultural sector. This is in addition to $1.5 million in new funding as part of the Tasmanian Government’s Cultural and Creative Industries Stimulus Package.
Through the advanced development funding, film, television and online projects will be in a position to seek finance to start production when the current restrictions are eased.
The resourcefulness already shown by Tasmanians in the current situation, such as The Gloaming’s Launceston-based creator Vicki Madden, is a testament to our community, as we work together to stay at home and save lives.
“John Molloy and I are excited to be collaborating once more with Stan and Screen Tasmania and venturing back into the beguiling world of The Gloaming” Ms Madden said.

Viewers and critics gravitated towards the first season of this phenomenal Stan Original Series, one which showcased picturesque Tasmania as a central character, and also highlighted the incredibly talented Australian cast and crew.”
Season one of The Gloaming spent $7.5 million on Tasmanian cast, crew and services, enabled by $1 million from the Tasmanian Government and is available to stream now on Stan. Stan will match the Tasmanian Government funding as the virtual writers’ room begins developing a possible new season.
Screen Tasmania will consider the applications under the Additional Project Development Fund in June 2020.
