The Tasmanian Government is committed to supporting our learners and staff when Term 2 commences for Tasmanian Government Schools on Tuesday 28 April.
Keeping children at home and supporting their learning where possible is the best thing we can do to support Tasmania’s response to COVID-19.
However, school sites will be open for students who cannot be supervised or supported to learn from home, for example due to parents or carers’ work commitments.
Students’ teachers will provide parents with learning activities and tasks, which have been designed for the individual student and adjusted for the home environment.
We do not expect parents or carers to be experts, it will be teachers who continue to lead student learning by providing the appropriate learning activities
A new Wellbeing check-in tool will be available to allow teachers to ask students a series of questions about how they are finding learning at home.
This provides real time evidence of how our students are going and includes questions about the student’s mood, concerns and learning activity.
At the start of Term 2, principals will be provided with guidelines for recording student participation in learning and if appropriate, attendance at school during COVID19.
We want to understand whether students are participating in learning and know where we need to reach out and provide any additional support required.
I am confident we are prepared for Term 2 and while it may look different, students will continue to learn and get the support they need from their teachers and their school.
