The Hodgman Liberal Government continues to make important progress to address Tasmania’s housing shortage, including increasing the diversity of housing options.
Tenders have today been advertised for the supply of prefabricated units as part of a trial initiative funded under the Tasmanian Government’s Affordable Housing Action Plan.
This initiative will enhance existing Housing Tasmania stock by adding to properties so they can better accommodate those who may need extra space, or those whose families are too large to move into existing stock.
In particular, it is designed to reduce instances where young people may leave the family home and go straight into homelessness.
It’s another example of how the Hodgman Liberal Government is getting on with the job and working hard every single day to reduce housing stress.
We are also investing a further $125 million in the second stage of our Affordable Housing Action Plan that will provide an additional 1500 new affordable homes for Tasmanians, and assist around 2000 households.
The tender seeks submissions from manufacturers of demountable prefabricated units who can deliver units in the following configurations: self-contained studio units, one bedroom fully self-contained units, two bedroom fully self-contained units and variations of each of these for people living with disability.
The target is to deliver 20 units under this initiative by the end of 2019, with further units expected in the new year.
The tender opens on Saturday 19 May and closes on Wednesday 13 June 2018.
A briefing session will be held in Launceston on Wednesday 23 May for interested parties and anyone interested should send an email to register their attendance to Housing.Projects@dhhs.tas.gov.au.
The tender documents will be available on the Tasmanian Government Tenders website www.tenders.tas.gov.au.
