The Tasmanian Liberal Government greatly values our unique way of life which includes some of the best recreational sea fishing in the world.
To shape the state’s recreational sea fishing future we are developing the first 10-year strategy which includes the release today of the For a Better Fishing Future Survey
We rate highly the opinion and ideas from our recreational sea fishing community and we encourage Tasmanians of all ages to put forward their views in this survey.
We also want more women, children and families to embrace recreational fishing as a great form of exercise and to take advantage of Tasmania’s world class coastlines and estuaries as part of their lifestyle choices.
Tasmania’s first Recreational Sea Fishing Strategy is being developed by DPIPWE and will guide the future of the recreational sea fishing and to help maintain healthy fish populations for all Tasmanians.
The Tasmanian Government is focused on the long-term viability of our valuable recreational fisheries which is enjoyed by more than 100,000 Tasmanians each year because fishing is an important part of the Tasmanian way of life.
Seeking these views will help us strike the right balance between providing access for today’s fishers and ensuring we have fish for future generations.
The survey covers a variety of questions including:
A discussion paper will be released later this year seeking comment on the ideas and concerns raised by the public in this survey.
A draft strategy will be released for further public input early in 2021 and it is expected the final strategy will be launched later in 2021.
The survey is now open and closes on July 19 and we encourage Tasmanians of all ages, active and non-active fishers, as well as members of the general public to make suggestions on how recreational sea fishing should develop.
