Teachers take a tour on set of Rosehaven

Tasmanian high school media teachers have been given a unique opportunity to get an up close look at what it takes to make the smash-hit ABC comedy Rosehaven.

Minister for Education and Training, Jeremy Rockliff, said the unique opportunity allowed teachers to see how a professional production team works together.

“Seven teachers from Ulverstone Extension School, Newstead College, Elizabeth College, Rosny College and Hobart College have spent time on location and have taken a tour of the Rosehaven production office,” said Mr Rockliff.

“During the visits, teachers have had dedicated time with the producers getting an overview of the development and production of the series and have been on the shooting set - in the thick of the action and behind the monitors watching with the director.

“This has enabled the teachers to learn more about the skills involved in filming on location, costume, production design and editing on a major professional production.”

Acting Minister for the Arts, Michael Ferguson, said the visits were organised by the Rosehaven production team, Screen Tasmania and the Department of Education, and are an example of cross-Government collaboration.

“The initiative is part of the Tasmanian Government’s Screen Industry Workforce Development Plan, which identified an opportunity for our State’s educators to observe how a professional production team operates, and pass on the experience to students,” Mr Ferguson said.

“As well as this opportunity for teachers, Rosehaven has provided a number of development initiatives for emerging screen practitioners through Screen Tasmania’s attachment and trainee programs.”

The Government has committed $500 000 to support the third season of Rosehaven, which is expected to generate a further $2 million spend in the local economy and employ over 50 local cast and crew.
