The Hodgman Government is committed to taking over TasWater to fix infrastructure, improve services and reduce costs.
Our Plan has widespread support with the TCCI, TasCOSS, the tourism and hospitality industries, the Master Builders Association and the Property Council all supporting the Government’s Plan. We’ve also seen two polls released that show our Plan has the backing of the broader community as well as the small business community.
Today I announced to Parliament that we have sought additional legal advice from the Solicitor-General following the advice released recently by TasWater. We are now more confident than ever that the TasWater takeover is lawful.
Last week a number of claims were made to the contrary. Those claims are wrong and the Government will continue to progress its plan for a TasWater takeover, because it is in the best interests of the community.
