TasTAFE’s Annual Report tabled today shows a substantial increase in qualifications completed - up nearly 1,500 on the previous year.
Consistent with the Tasmanian Building and Construction Industry Training Board announcement earlier this week, there has been solid growth in construction apprentices, up by around 100 students on the previous year.
The report also confirms an increase in student numbers to 26,333.
With the economy growing from strength to strength under the Hodgman Liberal Government, now, more than ever, we need our public provider to train and reskill our growing workforce.
The Government invests over $100 million each year into vocational education and training, with TasTAFE accounting for more than 70 per cent of our total VET spend.
Our commitment to reinvigorate TasTAFE is reflected in $2.65 million in capital funding, and $550,000 in recurrent funding to establish TasTAFE Drysdale as a Centre of Excellence for tourism and hospitality training.
The TasTAFE annual report also shows a decline in workers compensation claims, with the results of the 2017 EMRS Learner and Employer Survey showing an increase in staff morale.
This is thanks to the TasTAFE staff and their commitment to their work, and the continued support and interaction with industry to ensure that TasTAFE provides the highest possible standard of skills and training to young Tasmanians.
TasTAFE is integral to our future by providing the skills needed for our growing workforce.
The Hodgman Liberal Government will continue to invest in and support TasTAFE, which is in sharp contrast to Labor who wrecked the TasTAFE system in government and given half a chance will wreck it again.
