Tassie's own Ben Brown joins fight against family violence

The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to creating a more inclusive Tasmania that empowers and enables women and girls to fully participate in our economic, social, political and community life.

Eliminating family violence in Tasmania is a top priority for the Government, and I welcome today’s announcement of the newest ambassadors for Our Watch, including Tasmania’s own Ben Brown.

The husband and wife duo - Kangaroos’ star forward and Tassie native Ben Brown, and gender equality advocate and registered marriage celebrant, Hester Brown will support the work of Our Watch, which was established to drive nation-wide change in the structures, norms and practices that lead to family violence.

The Tasmanian Government has supported Our Watch since 2015 to drive this change in the community, through grassroots campaigns to put an end to family violence.

Along with Our Watch’s national campaigns, a number of Tasmanian organisations have participated in the Our Watch Bystander Training, which is aimed at increasing the understanding, skills and confidence of family violence prevention practitioners.

Collaboration and support of organisations like Our Watch, will help the Government to deliver on our plan to eliminate family violence, and our target to reduce serious child abuse in Tasmania by 50 per cent by 2020.
