On behalf of the Hodgman Liberal Government, I would like to welcome today’s announcement that Anthony Donald has been appointed to the position of Chief Executive Officer of the Tasmanian Ports Corporation (TasPorts).
Mr Donald has significant maritime, transport and logistics experience, having previously worked for the Port of Melbourne and Melbourne Airport.
I wish Mr Donald, who has been acting in the position since September last year, well in the role and look forward to him continuing to implement major TasPorts’ projects.
As Acting CEO, he has worked closely with the Government on the development and implementation of the Port Master Plan, a $200 million investment in infrastructure.
As part of this, dredging operations have already been completed at Burnie, more than two months ahead of schedule, to accommodate Toll’s new state-of-the-art vessels.
In Devonport, work is progressing on the project to accommodate the new Spirit of Tasmania vessels, and in Hobart TasPorts is planning the establishment of a new Antarctic precinct at Macquarie Wharf No 6.
The ongoing development of our ports is critical to meeting future import and export demand in Tasmania.
