Tasmania’s premium food and beverages were again the envy of Asia this week at the HOFEX 2019 Food and Hospitality Tradeshow in Hong Kong.
At this year’s Tasmanian Government backed stall, eight local premium food and beverage producers were introduced to thousands of trade delegates from more than 70 countries.
And Tasmania’s presence yielded results, with Hong Kong supermarket chain, City Super, signing deals to stock Tasmania’s Westhaven Dairy’s full range of yoghurts, and premium Tas Prime oysters.
Woodbridge Smokehouse also signed a deal to increase the volume of their premium smoked salmon to Hong Kong’s ParknShop flagship stores.
These deals show the importance of the Tasmanian Liberal Government’s consistent efforts to assist Tasmanian businesses to reach new export markets through regular trade missions and participation in trade events.
The latest Australian Bureau of Statistics data shows Tasmanian exports continue to thrive, with our State exporting $3.76 billion worth of goods in the year to March 2019, with exports growing 6.6 per cent compared to the year earlier.
A thriving export sector requires constant engagement with our overseas trading partners, which is why we developed Tasmania’s first Trade Strategy.
The framework, developed in partnership with Tasmania’s exporters and producers, outlines actions to be undertaken as we work to grow our State’s exports to $15 billion per year by 2050.
These new deals demonstrate that Tasmanian has what the world wants, and driving exports is key to our Plan to grow the economy and create jobs, which allows us to invest in essential services and protect Tasmanian way of life.
