Tasmania’s tallest crane at RHH Redevelopment

The tallest crane to grace Hobart’s skyline is now at the RHH Redevelopment construction site.

The Hodgman Liberal Government made a commitment to save the $689 million redevelopment and the arrival of the tallest crane in Tasmania signals yet another milestone on Tasmania’s largest ever health infrastructure project.

The first of two Spanish built Jaso J438PA luffing cranes that will build the 10-storey tower, can reach a height of around 120 metres, with a capacity to lift up to 32 tonnes.

Demolition works were successfully completed earlier this year with minimal disruption to the general running of the hospital.

Works on site are progressing with pilings and structural site retaining works continuing.

The final concrete pour for the tower’s ground floor slab is scheduled for completion by the New Year, as previously forecast.

National supplier, Titan Cranes and Rigging Pty Ltd, will provide, operate, and maintain the two tower cranes for the duration of the tower construction at a cost of $6.4 million.

The second crane is scheduled for assembly during September 2017.

With record investment in health, the Hodgman Government is getting on with the job of providing a state-of-the-art hospital with additional capacity for 250-beds, to meet Tasmania’s health needs now and into the future.
