When visitors and locals tour our magnificent State they do not expect to encounter so many towns on ‘boil water’ or ‘do not consume’ alerts, sewage spills seven times the national average and only one of our seventy eight major sewerage treatment plants compliant with environmental standards.
That's why we have developed a plan to fix Tasmania’s failing water and sewerage infrastructure faster and cheaper, avoiding the steep price increases forecast by TasWater and supported by Labor.
Our top quality wine and superb cellar doors are a feature of our booming visitor economy, and we simply cannot afford to compromise our brand by allowing sewerage to enter our waterways and damage our environment.
Tasmania produces about 10 per cent of Australia’s premium wines, and the Government has a strategic partnership with Wine Tasmania to achieve the vision of trebling our wine production to 1.5 million cases by 2020.
