Tasmania’s exceptional economic growth

Today in Parliament I outlined the success of the past year for the Hodgman majority Liberal Government with regards to the economy, jobs and budget management.

I also took the opportunity to thank Tasmanians, businesses and workers, for their hard work in delivering the results we’ve seen this year and making the Tasmanian economy the fastest growing in the nation.

Tasmania is a prouder, more confident place to be than ever before, and we continue to go from strength to strength, with the Hodgman majority Liberal Government’s policies continuing to be the most popular in the nation.

In a record first for Tasmania, the Australian Bureau of Statistics has also confirmed that our economy, for the first time in 30 years, is now the fastest growing in Australia.

It is also the first time that all 19 industries in Tasmania grew throughout the year, underpinning jobs growth and exceptional business confidence. ABS data also showed that since we were elected, 15,800 jobs have been created, and there are now a record 250,900 Tasmanians in work.

The Government also delivered its fourth budget surplus in a row for 2018-19.

Clearly, the Government’s plan is working, with Tasmanian businesses voting our Government’s policies the most popular in the nation for the ninth quarter in a row in the recent SENSIS report.

With Tasmania’s economy continuing to be the envy of the nation, the Government will maintain our economic momentum and continue to deliver our plan to support the creation of 10,000 more jobs across our State.
