Tasmania’s economy continues to grow

Last year, our economy grew at the fastest rate in six years.  ABS figures released today show that Tasmania’s economy continues to grow under the Hodgman Liberal Government.

State Final Demand increased by 0.1 per cent in the first three months of 2016 and 1.9 per cent in the 12 months to the end of March.

This growth has been driven by healthy growth of 0.6 per cent in household spending, which reflects the continued positive reaction to our long-term Plan.

Under the Hodgman Liberal Government the building and construction sector is strong, the tourism and hospitality industry is booming, exports are growing, retail is at record highs and over 2,000 new jobs have been created.

There is still a lot more to do though, that’s why the budget we handed down last week contains a $425 million jobs package and a $1.8 billion spend on infrastructure.
