Congratulations to all students who participated in this year’s Premier’s Reading Challenge.
The Challenge is an important government program that aims to improve the reading skills of Tasmanian children, raise parent and community awareness about the importance of reading, and demonstrate our commitment to education.
The emphasis is that reading is fun!
More than 32,000 Tasmanian students from 166 schools registered for this year’s Challenge to read 10 books over 10 weeks.
For the second year, the Premier’s Reading Challenge partnered with the Hawthorn Football Club to connect with and encourage even more Tasmanian students to participate.
I would also like to acknowledge our students’ families and teachers who provided support and encouragement for participants of this fantastic initiative.
Reading and literacy skills are critical building blocks for life, and books can open a world of adventure for our children.
I encourage all Tasmanians to visit their local library, or visit www.libraries.tas.gov.au, to experience the many free opportunities on offer – from books, stories, music, comics and magazines to help with reading, writing, maths and digital skills.
