The Tasmanian Liberal Government is a strong supporter of our wonderful volunteers and volunteer organisations.
The 2019 Tasmanian Volunteering Awards are about reflecting on the important contribution that they make to our State.
Recognised as the peak body for volunteering in Tasmania, Volunteering Tasmania supports volunteers and volunteer organisations, and is this year, celebrating its 25th year of operation.
To assist Volunteering Tasmania in its operations, the Government provides $330,000 per annum in funding.
The Government is also providing funding to Volunteering Tasmania to assist with the administration and operation of the Emergency Volunteering Community Response to Extreme Weather (EV-CREW).
EV-CREW is an important web-based system that is designed to quickly build an army of volunteers in response to a natural disaster or emergency. The Tasmanian Government is providing $200,000 over four years for the project through to 2020-21. As at September 30, there were 804 Tasmanians registered with EV-CREW.
The work of Volunteering Tasmania and the premise of EV-CREW fits with the theme of this year’s International Volunteer Day, Volunteers Build Resilient Communities, focussing on the important values volunteerism brings and contributes to building resilient communities, achieving peace and recovery from events and disasters.
We thank Volunteering Tasmania, all our volunteers and volunteer organisations. Communities and individuals are encouraged to take the time to nominate a volunteer in the 10 available award categories.
