Tasmanian renewable energy part of the solution for national energy issues

There is no doubt that securing affordable, reliable and secure renewable energy in the national grid is a major issue for the country and Tasmania stands ready to play its part in developing solutions.

Tasmania’s historic investment in hydro power will play an increasingly important role as the rest of the country begins to transition to renewable energy.

Next week I will lead a delegation to Canberra and meet with the Prime Minister to discuss exciting opportunities to reinvest in and modernise our existing hydro system, explore options for new generation and explore the potential for pumped hydro.

Developing pumped hydro has the ability to increase the amount of renewable energy that we can contribute to the national grid and the Government looks forward to discussing this further with the Prime Minister, who has taken a strong personal interest in this issue and is showing significant leadership in this area.
