A Lindisfarne quarry operator has won a national award for its innovative solution to a challenging problem.
Hanson’s quarry was presented with the Environmental Innovation Award at the Cement Concrete and Aggregates Australia (CCAA) Environmental, Health and Safety Awards at a dinner in Melbourne last night.
Faced with having to haul rock some 2.5kms off-road over a steep incline, Hanson came up with a downhill, power-generating conveyor.
The conveyor not only moves rock from a primary crusher to a stockpile, it also generates power for use by other plant on the site.
Turning a liability into an opportunity, Hanson’s solution reduces its environmental impact, with reduced energy usage, reduced fossil fuel use and improved dust and noise emissions.
This is a great example of the innovation that Tasmanian industry is capable of delivering to solve problems and deliver positive outcomes.
I congratulate all involved at Hanson on this well-deserved award.
