Tasmanian Men's Sheds continue momentum

The Hodgman Liberal Government greatly values the important role played by Men’s Sheds throughout Tasmania, and by the Tasmanian Men’s Shed Association.

It was a pleasure to open the Special General Meeting here in Launceston today and I commend the TMSA on the significant momentum achieved by the Men’s Shed movement in recent years.

The Hodgman Liberal Government is an enthusiastic supporter of the important role they play in the community which is why we have committed $555,000 in support over the past three years.

In addition, the Tasmanian Government provided a further $90,000 in the 2017-18 State Budget for the TMSA to support further training in governance and health awareness programmes.

The Tasmanian Men’s Shed Association is the peak body for Men’s Sheds in Tasmania, representing and supporting 56 member Sheds currently operating in Tasmania.

Men’s Sheds have been shown to produce numerous health and social benefits including increased physical activity and improved awareness of mental health issues like anxiety and depression.

Today’s guest speaker is Liz Little, Chief Executive Officer of Rural Alive and Well (RAW), who will discuss men’s health, suicide and the importance of seeking help early.

Congratulations to the TMSA and the amazing band of volunteers who keep the 56 Sheds operating which in turn ensures their Sheds meet the needs of both their members and the local community.
