Tasmanian Government welcomes plan to upgrade the Sideling

The Hodgman Liberal Government welcomes the announcement that a re-elected Morrison Liberal Government will provide $40 million to upgrade the Sideling as well as $1.5 million to consider options to reduce congestion in Launceston such as an Eastern Ring Road.

These are key projects for the community and will significantly support ongoing economic growth, job creation and investment in the North.

This investment will include $40 million to upgrade the Sideling and $1.5 million for a comprehensive feasibility study into solving Launceston’s traffic congestion.

The plan will include additional passing lanes, road widening and provision for a straighter road. The Sideling project is designed to cut freight costs by millions of dollars a year, opening up enormous potential for the North-East agricultural sector.

Our strong partnership with the Morrison Liberal Government is delivering for Tasmania like our $500 million, 10 year Midland Highway Action Plan and the $240 million Tasmanian Freight Rail Revitalisation Program which are rebuilding key freight and commuter corridors and supporting Tasmania’s productive industries.

The Morrison Liberal Government, in partnership with the Hodgman Liberal Government, has a plan to grow jobs, invest in essential services and protect the Tasmanian way of life – projects like this help us to deliver on this Plan.
