The Hodgman Liberal Government welcomes the $92 million Tasmanian Health Plan released by the Morrison Liberal Government today.
Both the Australian and the Hodgman Liberal Governments have proven strong financial management, and as a result have been able to invest record levels of funding into health.
The Australian Government’s Tasmanian Health Plan continues this work with the centrepiece of this significant investment being $34.7 million to help more Tasmanians get the specialist care and surgery they need.
Under the program, thousands of additional surgeries, procedures and specialist appointments will be delivered, which will be of enormous benefit to Tasmanians waiting for their care.
The Tasmanian Health Plan also includes significant investment in crucial cancer care infrastructure that will provide a new level of services for Tasmanians.
It has long been the case that Tasmania has had a service gap in public diagnostic mammography. More than a decade ago Labor promised that these services would be reinstated, but didn’t. It has taken the Morrison Government to fix it. They will implement services in the North and South so that Tasmanian women will be able to access these services in a public setting.
The $4.7 million Linear Accelerator will also double capacity for this care at the North-West Cancer Centre, and the new bulk-billed MRI service in Devonport that will enable more North-West Tasmanians to access scans.
The Hodgman Government also welcomes the huge boost to drug and alcohol services, the $10 million boost for the highly successful Menzies Flagship MS research program and the $400,000 investment in capital works to support birthing in Launceston.
