Tasmanian art in the international spotlight

Three Tasmanian art galleries will showcase their works on an international stage later this year, thanks to the Hodgman Liberal Government’s new Art Fair Industry Development Initiative.

We are committed to supporting our artists and arts communities, which is why we have dedicated $240,000 over three years to help represent talented Tasmanian artists and galleries at the prestigious Sydney Contemporary and Melbourne Art Fair.

These key industry events provide important exhibition and networking opportunities, as well as pathways to building new markets both nationally and internationally.

Bett Gallery, Michael Bugelli Gallery and Despard Gallery have each been awarded $20,000 to take part in Australasia’s international art fair, Sydney Contemporary, in September 2019.

The work of some of Tasmania’s leading contemporary artists will be showcased, with Bett Gallery presenting the work of landscape painters Richard Wastell and Philip Wolfhagen, and sculptor Belinda Winkler.

This year, the Art Fair Industry Development Initiative will also fund a Tasmanian spotlight event at Sydney Contemporary.

This event will strengthen Tasmania’s profile and ensure the talents of our artists and arts workers are recognised and celebrated on the international stage.
