Tasmanian appointed as national RSL President

The Hodgman Liberal Government welcomes the appointment of Tasmanian Major General Greg Melick AO RFD FANZCN SC as the Returned and Services Leagues of Australia (RSL) National President.

Major General Melick has firsthand understanding of the issues facing returned servicemen and brings a wealth of public and private sector experience to this role.

Today, Tasmania has more than 10,500 veterans and ex-serving personnel, and this Government recognises the important role RSLs play in supporting the veteran community.

This is why the Government is providing peak body status to the RSL (Tasmania Branch) which will see an increase in core annual funding to $110,000 to provide assistance and advocacy and is also providing $50,000 per year for three years to RSL (Tasmania Branch) to undertake projects that improve service delivery to ex-serving men and women in Tasmania.

I look forward to working with Major General Melick to advance the interests of veterans and their families.
