Three emerging Tasmanian Aboriginal filmmakers will soon jet off to Melbourne to attend the prestigious Australian International Documentary Conference (AIDC), thanks to funding support from the Hodgman Liberal Government.
Georgia Stone, Teangi Brown and Andry Sculthorpe will participate in the Australian Indigenous Creators Program, which is designed for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander practitioners focsusing on pitching, storytelling, funding and distribution.
Helping Tasmanian Aboriginal people to tell their stories is one of Screen Tasmania’s strategic aims, and this opportunity provides a platform for these stories to reach industry leaders from around the world.
This funding of almost $10,000 was offered through Screen Tasmania’s Industry Development program, and will also allow four other Tasmanian filmmakers to attend the conference.
The AIDC is Australia’s premier event for documentary, factual and interactive non-fiction screen content, which each year attracts a diverse mix of broadcasters, storytellers, entrepreneurs and documentary fans.
