Move over Queensland, Tasmania is now sharing top spot with the Sunshine State as Australia’s most appealing destination in our number one tourism target market.
Tasmania and Queensland are equally ranked by our target travellers; higher income couples living down the Eastern Seaboard who want to escape, spend time together and explore.
This target market is known as Life Long Learners, and includes couples aged 40-plus who are seeking an experience and couples aged 25-40 wanting a short break.
This is just one of many impressive results from the Tourism Info Monitor quarterly survey to June, which found 73 per cent of travelling Australians found a Tasmanian holiday appealing.
This appeal is higher than last quarter and last year, up by seven per cent on the same quarter in 2025 and four per cent higher than the last quarter.
Around 33 per cent of Australians said they were considering visiting Tasmania in the next two to three years, and 18 per cent were considering a Tassie getaway in the next year.
Our island continues to rank strong among all travellers, coming in second only to Queensland as the best destination, and we were ranked the second most positively talked about destination.
A particularly heartening result from the latest Tourism Info Monitor is the strength of word of mouth in encouraging travellers to our shores.
For the first time since 2013, word of mouth was identified by travellers as the leading source of information about Tasmania.
This shows that travellers are having positive Tassie experiences that are worth talking about - encouraging people to share in our unique experience.
This is great news for the economy and jobs, with tourism supporting more than 37,000 workers.
