Tasmania to host National Pollie Pedal

I am pleased to officially welcome the 2015 National Pollie Pedal to Tasmania.

Launched this morning in Canberra by the Prime Minister Tony Abbott, the Pollie Pedal will take in approximately 600kms of northern Tasmania over late March 2015.

In its nearly 20 years of operation, the annual charity bike ride has raised $4.2 million for Australian charities.

Around 50 riders will be taking part in this year's event, raising much needed funds for Carers Australia.

With responsibility for carers in the State Government, I look forward to participating in this event for the 12th time and raising awareness and funds for Tasmania's more than 73 000 carers, who are ably supported by Carers Tasmania.

This year's event will be launched in Burnie on March 27—coincidentally the same city where then Minister for Health Tony Abbott launched the Tasmanian Pollie Pedal in 2006.

I look forward to again participating in this great fundraiser and growing awareness of Tasmania's carers.
