Celebration dinners and formals to go ahead, with dancing allowed

In welcome news for Tasmanian school students, Public Health has advised that formals and celebration dinners will be able to go ahead, with dancing allowed on school sites.

Following discussions between the Director of Public Health and the Department of Education, it has been agreed that density restrictions will apply to school venues used for end of year celebrations of one person per 2 square metres, up to a maximum of 250 people.

There must also be a clear separation between the dance floor and where food and beverages are consumed.

Events held at alternative venues (not on school sites) will need to comply with that venue’s COVID safety plan and the current public health directions.

The allowing of celebrations with dancing on school sites acknowledges that our school students regularly mix both inside and outside of the school environment, and that the student groups are known to the school and each other, making contact tracing easier if required.
