A new Bike Friendly Business program will help local businesses stay on track and benefit from the surge in cycle tourism.
The Tourism Industry Council Tasmania’s (TICT) Bike Friendly Business Accreditation Program will inform cycling tourists where to shop, stay and visit, and help Tasmania to market ourselves as a cycling friendly state.
Participating businesses will be able to demonstrate they have a minimum of five attributes that support cyclists. The TICT will provide training and resources on being bike friendly to businesses as part of the accreditation program.
The Tasmanian Government has contributed $85,000 to the development of the Program through our $6 million Cycle Tourism Strategy which is guiding and funding the development of Tasmania’s cycling tracks and trails, growing and promoting experiences and events, and improving safety for cyclists.
Around 38,000 visitors jump on a bike during their visit to Tasmania and that’s a number that’s continuing to grow. To sustain that growth and ensure those visitors are spending more and seeing more of the state, it’s important that our tourism and hospitality businesses are delivering a welcoming experience for visitors on bikes.
