Tasmania leading Australia in Building Reform

The Hodgman Liberal Government is a strong supporter of our building and construction industry, and our building reforms have been shown to be ahead of other States with the release of an independent report presented today at the national Building Ministers Forum in Melbourne.

Independent assessors Professor Peter Shergold AC and Ms Bronwyn Weir carried out the independent report into the effectiveness of construction industry compliance and enforcement systems across Australia.

The report is a ringing endorsement of Tasmania’s recent nation-leading Building Reforms, which introduces a risk-based approach to building approvals to ensure that the level of regulatory oversight for building work matches the level of risk to public health and safety.

Building Ministers welcomed the Final Report today, which provides a set of recommendations aimed at strengthening compliance with the National Construction Code through a harmonised national approach.

Tasmania’s construction sector continues to experience significant growth under the Hodgman Liberal Government, which is underpinning strong business and investor confidence.

The outcomes of today’s Building Ministers’ Forum further demonstrates that we are well on the way to delivering our plan to support the continued growth of the critically important building and construction sector, while ensuring the quality and safety of Tasmanian buildings.
