Tasmania hits record high in latest Sensis Business Index

Tasmania has the most popular state or territory Government in the country with small and medium businesses, according to the latest Sensis Business Index.

The Report confirms support for the Government’s policies from small to medium businesses has risen to a record high of +36, up by a whopping 17 points for the quarter and double the nearest State – as noted by Sensis CEO John Allan, this is the highest result on record in the history of the Sensis Business Index. Leading factors included a booming economy, and a supportive policy environment.

Tasmanian small to medium business confidence is the highest out of all of the States and increased again by 3 points in the latest survey. Overall out of all jurisdictions including the territories, Tasmania is second only to the ACT.

This is in stark contrast to the experience under the previous Labor-Green Government, when 2 out of every 3 businesses felt the Government’s policies actually worked against them.

Our long-term plan is about putting in place the right economic conditions to allow Tasmanian businesses to thrive, and this is just the latest report that confirms our plan is creating jobs and investment in Tasmania.

Business confidence in Tasmania is also up 3 points to 57, meaning Tasmania retains second place behind the ACT.

Importantly however, the Report confirms that regional business confidence in Tasmania is leading the nation, meaning the State’s economic boom is being spread to all parts of the State.

This is just the latest economic report that confirms the strength of our economy, with Tasmania recording the fastest annual pace of economic growth over the last year according to yesterday’s CommSec report.

Over 14,600 jobs have been created since the 2014 election and we will continue to put in place the right environment for businesses to flourish in Tasmania.
