Tasmania Harness Racing awards shines spotlight on state’s stars

The who’s who of Tasmania’s harness racing industry has been recognised at the annual Harness Awards held in Hobart on Saturday night.
The Hodgman majority Liberal Government is a strong supporter of Tasmania’s racing industry which contributes more than $100 million to the local economy each year.
Max Delight, the winner of the $30,000 Tasmanian Derby, the $200,000 NSW 3YO Derby (Menangle) and the $200,000 3YO Colt or Gelding Breeders Crown Final at Melton, took out top honours, winning the Ladbrokes Horse of the Year award, along with the Corporate Communications 3YO Colt or Gelding of the Year Award.
Other awards included:
- Colby Sanz - the Medical Edge 2YO Colt or Gelding of the Year;
- Blame It On Me - Tasmanian Trotting Club 2YO Filly of the Year Award;
- Still Hungover - the Launceston Pacing Club 3YO Filly of the Year Award;
- Twenty Two Karat - the Elderslie Horse Care & Spelling Mare of the Year;
- Ignatius - the Vizpix Broadcast Services 4YO & Older Colt or Gelding of the Year Award;
- Ben Yole - the Devonport Harness Racing Club Leading Trainer Award for the fourth time in as many years and the Halwes Medal;
- Kuri Leonard and Jeremy Burke - Tasracing Welfare Award;
- Mark Yole -St Mary’s Pacing Club Leading Driver Award;
- Conor Crook - North Eastern Pacing Club Junior Driver Award;
- Samantha Gangell - Tasracing Leading Female Driver Award and the Junior Driver’s premiership;
- Bianca Heenan -Burnie Harness Racing Club Leading Female Trainer Award;
- Our Zellweger NZ - Tourello Standardbreds Broodmare of the Year Award;
- Stephen King - The Edgar Tatlow Medal.
Hall of Fame inductees for 2019 were horses Pipiriki and Paleface Lyndy, trainer/driver Mark Stanley and breeders Neptune Stud.
