Tasmania continues to lead nation for building approvals

The release of ABS data today shows the total number of dwellings approved in Tasmania grew by 14 per cent in April 2019, compared to April 2018, in trend terms.

We have again recorded the strongest growth in the nation, and are one of only two states to experience positive growth over the year, while the national result declined by 21.8 per cent, over the same period.

It is encouraging that Tasmania continues to experience nation-leading growth in the level of construction activity, which is supported by the Hodgman Liberal Government's commitment to invest in growth.

We are working hard to increase Tasmania’s housing supply and the number of affordable homes for Tasmanians in need through our Affordable Housing Action Plan 2019-23 - bringing our total investment for affordable housing to $200 million over eight years.

The 2019-20 Budget also outlines the extension of initiatives that support first home buyers into the market, and eligible pensioners to downsize to get more stock back into the market.
