The Tasmanian Government has made a bid for the opportunity to host the inaugural day/night international Test Match at Blundstone Arena.
In December, I met Cricket Australia Chair Wally Edwards and Deputy Chair David Peever to outline our case to host the match between Australia and New Zealand in November.
I was encouraged by the meeting and I am confident Hobart is in the running to be the venue for what will be an historic cricket event.
Cricket Tasmania has a strong case and runs on the board to successfully host such an important sporting event.
Tasmania has a rich cricketing heritage, which includes hosting Australia's first first-class game in Launceston in 1851.
Over the years Tasmania has contributed many players to national teams, most notably David Boon and Ricky Ponting and more recently George Bailey, James Faulkner and Xavier Doherty.
The opening of the Ricky Ponting Stand at Blundstone Arena has confirmed the oval as one of the world's best boutique stadiums.
It has already proven to be a wonderful place to watch Big Bash League cricket and the three upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup games will ensure Tasmania is again in the international cricketing spotlight.
The economic and social benefits of hosting the first day/night Test Match would be significant and the Government supports Cricket Tasmania and their partners in pitching to host this event.
