Tasman voters to have their say on amalgamation

The decision taken by the Tasman Council to conduct an elector poll during March/April this year on whether to amalgamate with Sorell Council demonstrates maturity and leadership from the councillors and that they are willing to listen to their community.

While a recent Local Government Board Review recommended both councils amalgamate, this decision will allow the Tasman community to have their say once and for all on the future direction of the council.

The Hodgman Liberal Government will fund the elector poll, which is consistent with our position of supporting any council looking at amalgamations.

The Tasmanian Electoral Commission will run the elector poll, and all eligible voters in the Tasman municipality are encouraged to ensure they are enrolled to vote, to ensure their views are heard.
