Tarkine Drive visitor facility upgrades

A tender has been advertised today for upgrades to visitor sites on the Tarkine Drive.

Visitor facilities at Julius River and Milkshake Hill will be upgraded to improve the visitor experience thanks to a $500,000 investment by the Hodgman Liberal Government.

At Julius River, picnic facilities will be upgraded, track maintenance will be carried out on the Short River Walk and a carpark assessment will be undertaken.

At Milkshake Hills, the picnic shelter roof will be replaced and interpretive signage installed.

Tasmania’s National Parks, Reserves and wilderness areas are a key driver of tourism in regional areas around our state.

The Liberal Government is delivering record funding of over $65 million in the management of our parks and reserves to protect our precious wilderness assets and provide opportunities to engage with our natural areas, not just for now but for generations to come.

As part of this commitment, we are investing $2 million for the upgrade of Sumac Road on the Tarkine Drive route, including $500,000 to improve the visitor facilities at Julius River and Milkshake Hill.

The tender for these works is being advertised today, with works expected to be completed by March 2019.

Tender documents are available at https://www.tenders.tas.gov.au/. Submissions close on Wednesday, 3 October 2018 at 2pm.
